The Basics of Basic Phones
Basic phone - Kosher phone - Flip phone
A basic phone refers to a simple phone that has very basic functions. Basic phones typically dont have a touch screen and besides for making phone calls and texting usually have very basic tools like a clock, an alarm clock, a music player and a simple camera.
Most basic phones have internet capabilities via cellphone data and wifi and have a browser and an email app. And some basic phones come with other apps like YouTube Facebook WhatsApp Google etc. A very common mistake made is thinking that basic phones don't have internet capabilities and are automatically Kosher.
A Kosher Phone is a basic phone that the internet browser and the other internet apps have been blocked. If a basic phones come with internet and is only called Kosher once the internet is blocked then why is a smartphone with the internet blocked not called a kosher phone. The answer is with a moshol if you have a challah knife you can use it to cut a wood panel would anyone consider a challah knife a saw no because it's made to be used for challah just because you are able to also use it to cut wood dosent make it into a saw same with a basic phone since it is made for basic functions like calling and texting just because you can also be used to browse the internet doesn't make it into a smartphone.
Most basic phones in the USA are designed as Flip phones which means the phone folds in half with the number keyboard on the bottom and the screen on the top of the phone. This is the reason why basic phones are also referred to as Flip phones
